It is our aim to expose our pupils to a range of learning and extra-curricular activities that will challenge them and motivate them to achieve and to exceed their potential. We demand high standards of our children in how they work, learn and play and in return we strive to give them the very best of what we can offer.

We hope that this prospectus gives you a glimpse into school life at St. Stephen’s and I would warmly invite you to visit us so that you can see for yourselves our positive and stimulating environment and what we can offer your child.

Resource Base for the Visually Impaired

St Stephen’s has been a specialist centre for children with a vision impairment since 1984. We have facilities and staff to support up to 8 pupils with visual impairment. We include our children with visual impairment in as much class-based learning as possible. We do this by creating vision friendly environments and also by developing the children’s skills so that they can become independent learners.

We have excellent resources to enhance the learning of children using Braille or large print materials and we have a wide range of tactile equipment to enable access to all areas of the curriculum. Our accessible site promotes independent mobility and we strive to make any changes needed in order to support access to learning.

Specialist teachers and experienced Teaching Assistants provide support to help each child acquire the skills necessary to become independent learners. ICT equipment and training is provided to suit each child’s specific visual needs.

We have good links with outside agencies such as Mobility Officers, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists.

About our School

We are a Church of England Primary school supported by the churches of St. Stephen’s South Godstone, St. Nicholas’ Godstone and St. John’s Blindley Heath. The school has adopted the Christian values of Hope, Equality, Compassion, Love, Honesty, Patience, Courage, Peace, Thankfulness, Forgiveness and Tolerance as values that we teach and develop in pupils over the years that they are with us.

St Stephen’s is a one form entry school blessed with superb facilities. We have vast playing fields, a courtyard, adventure trails and our own heated outdoor swimming pool.

We encourage and expect all children regardless of gender, race, socio- economic background, disability or special educational need, to benefit from what the school has to offer. As a school we reflect the best practice that Surrey can offer following the National Code of Practice. We aim to deliver quality teaching and offer additional intervention programmes for pupils requiring ‘catch up’ or for more able pupils requiring enrichment or extension.

We employ a Learning Mentor who works with pupils in the school to develop strategies to minimise and overcome social, emotional and/or behavioural barriers to learning. The School Print Company have produced our wonderful school prospectus and exercise books.
